The 5 Senses - Continuation

Foolish Games
Hands
Stand
Break Me
You Were Meant For Me
- all songs by Jewel

Back when I still made use of my Sony discman, I would burn cds to listen to on my way to work and back home since the journey was damn long. Going down to Orchard Road every morning and listening to these songs became part of my daily routine. Jewel's songs from her 1st album were lovely to listen to and allowed me to enjoy the short naps I used to take on the MRT (provided I could find a seat, in fact I always could get a seat since I took the train from Pasir Ris). Ummm....so soothing....I really hated for the journey to end as that was when I would have to squeeze my way out the packed cabin and into another crowd waiting to change trains. More squeezing as the kiasu work people all tried to rush into the next train before the doors closed. People stepping on each other's feet. Rude Ah Sohs raising their voices going, "Es-cue-me" and tsk-ing all their way out. Fortunately, I was alighting 2 stops later and I always let these kiasu and inconsiderate people make their way into the train before I calmly walked and put myself right in front of the doors. Very convenient for me to alight then. Sometimes, if I was unlucky, I would get a "sleeper"; the kind who fall asleep and have their nodding heads lie onto your shoulder or chest. Hmph, after a few experiences of such people, I stopped being a nice kind soul and would jerk the person's head off with my shoulder. Then the person would wake up with a start, pretend nothing happened and tried to avoid eye contact with me. Hahahaha!! I did fall asleep once and my head almost landed on the person beside me. Luckily, she didn't do anything to me.

Going home from work was less enjoyable. Seldom did I get to find a seat until I reached Bedok or Tampines. By then, I was almost home and there was no point in sitting anymore. Sometimes, my colleague would take the same train as me and stop at Marina to change her train. Then, at least, I had some company for part of my long journey home.

It was a good thing I went to work on my own. I am so not a morning person so I prefer to be left alone until my brain is completely awake. I resent have to "entertain" a friend early in the morning when all I want to do it close my eyes and just space out. My sister understands this. She is not a morning person either. Back then when we happened to leave the house at the same time and take the same bus to work(for me) or school (for her), we would just grunt at each other when going our separate ways.
